Legal action has been taken against the creator of a Kickstarter project for apparent ‘deception and misleading conduct’ by The Federal Trade Commission.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, the creator of the Kickstarter project Erik Chevalier used the funds for himself, rather than the project.
“Many consumers enjoy the opportunity to take part in the development of a product or service through crowdfunding, and they generally know there’s some uncertainty involved in helping start something new. But consumers should be able to trust their money will actually be spent on the project they funded,” (FTC – Bureau of Consumer Protection).
The FTC have ordered Erik Chevalier to pay back $111,793.71, but for some reason we have a feeling that it won’t be as simple as that! Time will tell.
