When you make a comparison between the newly released Xbox and PS consoles, you can see some interesting parallels to when the previous generations of both were released. Whereas the PS3 was made as an entertainment console, capable of far more than merely gaming, the Xbox 360 was focussed towards appealing to the more hardcore gamers, with an operating system streamlined towards that section of the market. However, when looking at the newly released consoles, we can see that the roles have been reversed. The PS4 is a capable games console, being both more powerful, and less cluttered with other functions. The Xbox 1 however, has gone the other direction, with a more an operating system more keyed towards general entertainment. The Xbox 1 is more expensive, but as Xbox Kinect is included, the price is perhaps justified. Many people who considered the Xbox 360 to be the crowning achievement of the previous generation of games consoles may well decide that the PS4 is more suited to the title this time round. When looking at the Xbox 1, we can see a clear long term strategy set out by microsoft to prepare its games console to manage your entire living room entertainment.
