Is gaming actually bad for us?

New research has recently been carried out that disputes the previously held view that gaming is bad for our mental health and wellbeing but what is the impact of spending hours on a game console?
Doing any activity for hours on end where the participant is sitting down could be seen to be an unwise choice so in this way gaming could be seen to be detrimental to our health. Games that involve moving around such as fitness games would be better, and if played between more inactive games would enable the player to get the best of both worlds.
Adventure games or puzzle games where the gamer needs to think about what to do next or work out a problem could sharpen their mind because they are having to work out the solution to a puzzle so this would be a positive outcome for gaming.
Many gamers use gaming as a way to relax and unwind at the end of a hard day’s work. This will in fact help their mental health and wellbeing as they enjoy the downtime that gaming provides. Games that involve building environments are particularly good because of the level of satisfaction it gives the player once they have completed their build.
