Should you let your child spend their pocket money on in app purchase?

There are so many different types of games available on tablets, games consoles and phones. Often many children have access to at least one of these types of device and overtime they may not be satisfied with just playing the free and basic games. Many of the app type games are free to play but then offer in app purchases to get more coins or gems or to allow you to complete tasks quicker. These games make their money not only from this but often also from advertising other apps and games.
A child can very quickly get consumed in the game and want to spend money on these added extras to enhance the game playing experience, but is it right to allow them to spend their pocket money or birthday money on these virtual gifts?
It is a good idea to teach children about money and about saving from a young age. Often you can allow them to save up their pocket money to buy something that they cannot afford yet, but it is also an important lesson to learn what is worth buying and what is not. You may allow them to spend a small amount on in app purchases and see what happens. It may be that they instantly regret it when they can no longer afford the toy they wanted or you may find that actually it gives them hours of enjoyment.
